Whispered Prayer
A prayer seeking the protection and mercy of God in light of the eventual destruction and renewal of the cosmos. This is a Hermetic variant of the Islamic prayer of the Munajāt, or the Whispered Prayer, of Imām `Alı̄ ibn ‘Abī Ṭālib (as) in the Great Mosque of Kūfa, which is a supplication attributed to the first Shia imam invoked during the lunar month of Sha`bān. This prayer uses the prophecy of the destruction and renewal of the world from sections 24 through 26 of the Hermetic text Asclepius, or the Perfect Sermon along with various Hermetic attributes and epithets for the divine, replacing the explicitly Islamic elements but keeping the same overall structure and theme from the Munajāt. This prayer was first introduced in this June 2020 post.
In reciting this prayer, after every supplication, silently recite “Oh God, my God, be merciful, be gracious, be propitious to us all”. In keeping with the Munajāt, it is preferable to recite this prayer in a low, hushed, or whispered voice.
